SEUM advised Korean mobile tattoo startup Prinker Korea Inc. (“Prinker”) in its USD 3,000,000 investment from L’Oréal Group.
Prinker is a beauty tech startup founded in 2015 through Samsung Electronics’ in-house venture organization C-Lab which develops and sells tattoo printers using natural cosmetic raw materials and inkjet printing technology. Prinker’s tattoo device can draw a desired picture or pattern on the skin within one second, which can be easily erased with soap but cannot be erased with water, making useful for performances and festivals.
The relationship between Prinker Korea and L’Oreal began in 2017 when Prinker won the L’Oréal Innovation Runway, a startup conference hosted by L’Oréal. Prinker Korea attracted worldwide attention for L’Oreal’s recognition of Prinker’s excellent product quality, which allowed Prinker to attract investment from various VCs.
L’Oreal, as the world’s leading beauty company, has been investing in various companies since 2011 through its venture fund BOLD. BOLD’s portfolio includes a broad range of startups in various countries in the lifestyle industry, including biotech, consumer tech, and social commerce, that goes beyond just the cosmetic industry, and this investment in Prinker Korea is seen as another early investment in a company with promising technology.
SEUM’s advice throughout the overall process of this cross-border investment allowed Prinker to smoothly consummate this investment from L’Oréal.
